Saumik Biswas, who completed the Western Medical Innovation Fellowship in 2021 has been named to Business London’s Twenty in their 20s list. Every year, Business London searches for the brightest, boldest and most impressive local twenty-somethings making waves in our community. From diverse industries across the city, this summer, colleagues and friends nominated their favourite local young people for consideration and our four esteemed judges from London’s business community selected the best of the best to represent Business London’s 2021 Twenty in Their 20s.

What is the motivating/driving force behind your early career success?

I witnessed at an early age the impact and importance of medical innovation for human health (for many years, my brother, born with a rare genetic bone disorder, received treatments and ultimately underwent a surgery – thanks to medical innovation – that dramatically increased his quality of life).

What is the biggest challenge in your line of work?

Time management. Being the CEO and one of the founders of a new med-tech startup requires me – and my team – to wear multiple hats at once, from strategy planning to conducting animal tissue trials.

Being able to do innovative work with a great team of like-minded individuals, while also having the opportunity to apply my creative problem-solving skills to specific challenges on a daily basis.

Reflecting on your career so far, what are you most proud of?

Being able to contribute to the advancement of research (through book chapters and publications), conducting and presenting my research globally, working with awesome teammates, and learning new skills.

Where do you see yourself in five years? What’s the goal?

I see myself continuing my leadership role at Tenomix and establishing the organization as a purpose-driven and people-focused company that is a leader in innovative pathology solutions. I also plan to continue developing new medical solutions with my team that can transform and further advance healthcare and improve the quality of life for others.
