Biography

Michael Lavdas holds a BESc of Mechatronic Systems Engineering from Western and is finalizing his MESc in Biomedical Engineering Science at the Robarts Research Institute. He also received dedicated entrepreneurial training as a Graduate Student Innovation Scholar delivered collaboratively by WORLDiscoveries and the Ivey School of Business.  Through support from NSERC, Bone & Joint Institute Transdisciplinary Training Program, Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters and GDLS he has accumulated research experience in several fields including surgical robotics, micro CT imaging peripherals and “smart” orthopaedic implantable devices for wireless infection telemetry.  Prior to his graduate studies, Michael worked for Trudell Medical International, performing new product development, rapid prototyping and device testing functions in the respiratory medical device space. Regardless of application, Michael’s primary areas of expertise are device design, 3D printing, CNC mill/lathe operations, CAD and sensor-based solutions. Future interests include continuing medical device development in entrepreneurial or consulting environments.
