Biography

Sathyanarayanan (Sat) holds both a PhD and MS in Bioengineering from the University of Texas at Dallas and is a technical expert in the operation, data acquisition/ processing and interpretation of high-end lab instruments including materials testing system (MTS-Bionix 370), x-ray photoelctron spectroscope and scanning electron microscopes. Sat brings experience in product testing and failure analyses of commercial medical devices in an academic setting with a focus on material/implant characterization. His research at UD led to successful product sales to dental implant industries including Straumann and the International Team for Implantology (ITI) to test their five different product lines. For his PhD dissertation, Sat focused on a comprehensive in vitro and in vivo failure analysis of titanium dental implants. He analyzed failed implants received from clinicians and developed a novel 3D printed chamber to investigate the synergistic effect of bacteria and bite force on the performance of dental implants.
