How many positions are available in the MIF Program?
Up to 8 positions will be open for the 2022-2023 MIF cohort.
Is this a paid position?
Yes, fellows are compensated at an annual rate.
When does the MIF Program begin, and what is the length of the program?
The 2022-2023 Medical Innovation Fellows cohort will start in August 2022 and will complete the 10.5 month program at the end of June 2023.
How many invention disclosures did the previous MIF cohort file?
The program has resulted in 22 invention disclosures and 9 patent applications have been filed on those disclosures since the program’s inception in 2015.
How many applications does the MIF Program receive each year? How many are selected for the interview and MIF Program?
The number of applications varies each year. Last year, we received 55 applications. A total of 10 candidates were interviewed; 8 were selected for the MIF Program.
In the application, are References and Letters of Recommendation different?
Yes. We ask for a list of references as one of the four attachments for the online application and we also ask for two Letters of Recommendation. However, you may ask individuals on your list of references to write your letters if you wish.
Do I need to have a project in mind to propose in order to become a fellow?
No, but you must have a passion for developing new medical devices.
Besides formal education and experience, what other factors does the MIF selection committee use as criteria for program acceptance?
Above all, we value motivated and creative team-players. If you have life experiences that demonstrate these traits and that help set you apart from other candidates, we would like to hear about it.
Do you consider international applicants?
Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada to be accepted into the program.
