Vessl Prosthetics
Vessl’s mission is to redefine how amputees interact with their prosthetic devices through novel, affordable and accessible solutions. To start, they have designed a dynamically adjustable socket that fits the limb as it changes size throughout the day without needing any input. Their simple pressure calibration design provides amputees with a feature usually only offered in expensive bionic systems, but now in a form factor reimbursable by virtually all insurance providers. The global market for global prosthetics and orthotics market is $6 billion. Vessl seeks to become a leader in this market.
Vessl was accepted to two incubators, Velocity at the University of Waterloo and BioNext at Robarts Research Institute. Both incubators provide access to prototyping resources, and networks that will be instrumental in product design and validation. The company also won the 2022 MSK Innovation Competition.
Tenomix Inc.
Tenomix’s mission is to develop novel technologies that target inefficiencies in the pathology workflow, optimize cancer care, and reduce healthcare costs. Their dedicated team of engineers, medical doctors, and clinical scientists is currently working on Tenomix’s flagship device, which autonomously searches for lymph nodes in resected colorectal cancer tissues and marks their locations for efficient extraction.
This bench-top device replaces the existing tedious and unreliable manual lymph node finding process and greatly improves the speed and reliability of the cancer staging process. This enables clinicians to make better-informed treatment decisions, resulting in fewer patient complications and fatalities, and ensures hospitals continuously meet their quality metrics.

ONPoint Medical is a TechAlliance BURST and Western Accelerator funded a startup company that has spun out of Western’s Medical Innovation Fellowship. ONPoint is helping simplify the collection of evidence-based measures in rehabilitation by working with therapists to adapt research-based assessments into clinic-friendly tools. Their first product, the Star Balance Training Mat works with the ONPoint Web-App to allow clinicians to easily score, plot and track a patient or athlete’s dynamic balance using the Star Excursion Balance Test.
Tune-Out Medical
Tune-Out Medical is a London, Ontario based spin-off company from the Medical Innovation Fellowship at Western University. They aim to help ophthalmologists and patients undergoing eye surgery by providing a way to mask, or ‘tune-out’, ocular sensation in order to prevent disruptive reflexive movements that can lead to surgical complications and cancellations. Their mission is to tune-out patient sensation and thereby lessen the psychological and physical burden of surgery.
Their technology prevents patients from perceiving the surgical tool pressure that would otherwise trigger reflexive episodes. This allows surgery to continue uninterrupted, thereby mitigating the expenses associated with delaying and cancelling procedures.
